David Rothkopf, the author of “Running the World: The Inside Story of the National Security Council and the Architects of American Power” joins us. We discuss the candidate’s positions and qualifications as possible leaders of the free world. |

Then, for another opinion on the suitability of the Republican presidential candidates to be stewards of our national security, we are joined by Roger Morris who served on the National Security Council under Presidents Johnson and Nixon until resigning over the bombing of Cambodia. He is the author of “Between the Graves” a new book about the history of U.S./Afghan relations and is at work on a comparative Cold War history of the inner politics of the U.S. and Soviet Russia. |

Then finally, in light of the prolonged cover-up at Penn State to protect the storied football program, we discuss the decline of public morality and ethical values in America and at universities, and the relationship of big money, big sports and corporate power to higher education. Joining us is Henry Giroux, the author of “Youth in a Suspect Society: Democracy or Disposability?” and “The University in Chains: Confronting the Military-Industrial-Academic Complex”. We begin with the disgusting scandal at Penn State University that has resulted in the firing of the university’s president and the famous coach Joe Paterno which provoked a student demonstration in support of the disgraced football coach. The award-winning senior writer for the Philadelphia Daily News, Will Bunch joins us to explain the moral vacuum at the university and apparently among the student body, that allowed the activity of a serial pedophile to be covered up for so long and why students would demonstrate in support of those who covered up such appalling criminal behavior. |

Then we look into the task of cutting $450 billion from the defense budget over ten years that Secretary of Defense is wrestling with, or failing an agreement by the Congressional Supercommittee, Panetta could find himself facing 500 billion in additional reductions over the next decade. First we speak with Russell Rumbaugh who was a defense analyst on the Senate Budget Committee and is author of a new report “What We Bought: Procurement from FY 01 to FY 2010”. We discuss how much of the decade-long 700 billion defense budget, that has doubled since 9/11, will be cut and how. |
