Part 1

We begin with the frightening fact that America’s new National Security Advisor is a warmonger who will soon be the most influential person and the closest advisor to Donald Trump who will sit at the apex of all national security information and other input coming into the White House that will shape U.S. policy and Trump’s perceptions which are already as belligerent as they are ignorant. David Rothkopf, a visiting professor at Columbia University and the author of “Running the World: The Inside Story of the National Security Council and the Architects if American Power” joins us to discuss the likelihood of a war with Iran and even the possibility of a nuclear war with North Korea. We assess what the motives of Trump’s biggest donors might be since Netanyahu’s patron and casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson brokered the deal that brought Bolton into the White House from Fox News and how much Fox News and its owner Rupert Murdoch have essentially become the Dick Cheney of the Trump White House in what appears to be a co-presidency of Fox News and the right wing echo chamber and Donald Trump.

Then we speak with Fernando Mosqueda, a youth leader at Community Coalition, a nonprofit that works to transform the social and economic conditions in South Los Angeles. He is a classmate and colleague of 17 year old Edna Chavez who spoke so eloquently at yesterday’s March for Our Lives demonstration in Washington D.C. that close to a million attended. He joins us from Washington to talk about the inspiring event at which only high school students spoke, along with the survivors of the latest gun massacre that claimed 17 lives at the high school in Parkland, Florida.

Part 3

Then finally Melody, Itayu and Manny join us in the studio. They are “Dreamers” based in Los Angeles and members of the California Dream Network, the youth branch of the coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights. We discuss Trump’s effort to blame the Democrats for the situation that has 800,000 “Dreamers” Caught in limbo between being able to stay in the only country they know or be deported back to a foreign country. They will make it clear that it is Donald Trump who is holding the “Dreamers” hostage to his demand to build a wall that Mexico was supposed to pay for.

March 22 - Projective Identification From the Mentally Ill President; What Outrage Would it Take for Republicans to Abandon Trump?; A Reckoning for Facebook

Full Program

LISTEN TO FULL PROGRAM

Part 1

We begin with an analysis of how much Trump is a trapped animal inside the Oval Office with Robert Mueller closing in on him. Lance Dodes, a Training and Supervising Analyst Emeritus with the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute who was a clinical professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and is a contributor to the recent book “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump”, joins us. We discuss the psychological manifestation of projective identification that Trump exhibits as he blames Hillary Clinton and others for what he does and who he is, turning them into crooks, liars, cheats and bullies while Trump lashes out with mounting fury against Robert Mueller. We will speculate about what would happen if Trump were to shut down the investigation, which, if completed, will likely be the only time in Trump’s life that he has not gotten away with cheating people and breaking the law.

Part 2

Then we explore further the possibility that Trump will not be able to contain his impulses and will suddenly fire Sessions or Rosenstein to shut down Mueller, despite assurances that he has no intention to do so, which was what he was saying before he fired Tillerson. David Halperin, a senior fellow at Republic Report who was a special assistant for national security affairs to President Clinton and counsel to the Senate Intelligence Committee, joins us to discuss what outrage on the part of Trump would be sufficient for the Republicans to take a moral stand which so far they have failed to do.

Part 3

Then finally, with Facebook’s stock taking a hit and users abandoning the platform while politicians call for investigations and transparency, we examine the fallout from the revelations about Cambridge Analytica and Facebook’s abuse of personal data. A leading voice in warning about the monopoly power of the tech giants and their business model of surveillance capitalism, Jonathan Taplin, joins us to discuss an overdue reckoning and his recent book “Move Fast and Break Things: How Google, Facebook and Amazon Cornered Culture and Undermined Democracy”.

March 21 - Trump's Secret Deals Brokered by a Child Molester; "The Iraq Reckoning Still to Come"; Ignoring His NSC, Trump Congratulates Putin

Full Program

LISTEN TO FULL PROGRAM

Part 1

We begin with a secret meeting of the leaders of Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States in late 2015 that took place on luxury yacht in the Red Sea where a new strategy to realign the Arab states was plotted. A former European and Foreign Editor and bureau chief with The Guardian, David Hearst, the Editor of Middle East Eye, joins us to discuss his latest article at Middle East Eye “EXCLUSIVE: The secret yacht summit that realigned the Middle East” and how General Sisi and the Saudis, along with the Gulf leaders, sold out the Palestinians in a realignment with Israel against Turkey and Iran. But perhaps the most amazing revelation is that the person who brokered the secret meeting is the same person who, along with Erik Prince the founder of the Blackwater mercenary army, tried to set up a secret back-channel in the Seychelles between Trump’s inner circle and the Kremlin. And what is even more astounding is that George Nader, who is now cooperating with Robert Mueller’s investigation, has multiple convictions and arrests and served one year in prison for sexually abusing underage boys and possessing child pornography.

Part 2

Then on the 15th anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq War we speak with Colonel Andrew Bacevich, a graduate of West Point who served 23 years in the U.S. Army whose latest book is “America’s War for the Greater Middle East: A Military History”. We discuss his latest article at the New York Daily News “The Iraq reckoning still to come” and the irony that the serial lair Donald Trump was the only politician who told the truth about America’s self-inflicted disaster in Iraq while others who voted to authorize the unnecessary war have remained silent.

Part 3

Then finally we assess whether an enraged Donald Trump will fire whoever leaked the briefing paper he got before his phone call to Putin that said in caps “DO NOT CONGRATULATE”, advice Trump ignored as he blithely overlooked how Putin rigged the vote and Russia’s meddling in our election, not to mention Putin’s use a WMD against a NATO ally. A leading expert on the politics and economics of post-communist Russia, Daniel Treisman, a professor of political science at UCLA and author of “The New Autocracy: Information, Politics, and Policy in Putin’s Russia”, joins us.

LISTEN TO FULL PROGRAM

Part 1

We will begin with today’s White House visit by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman known as MBS whose arrival coincided with a rare vote in the U.S. Senate on the War Powers Act being invoked to end U.S. involvement in a devastating war in Yemen that MBS escalated in 2015 with a brutal bombing campaign and a blockade that has created the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. Brian Katulis, a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress who focuses on national security policy in the Middle East and recently met with MBS in Saudi Arabia, joins us to discuss the public relations campaign underway to portray MBS as a reformer ahead of his expected promotion as the next king of Saudi Arabia, replacing his ailing father on the throne. We will assess the extent of the co-mingling of statecraft and business interests between MBS and his new friend Jared Kushner, and remarks made by MBS in a recent 60 Minutes interview in which he talked of Saudi Arabia acquiring nuclear weapons. With a likely step in that direction being an announcement by Trump that the U.S. will sell the Saudis dual-use nuclear reactors.

Part 2

Then we look into the war MBS is waging against Yemen and the vote today in the senate of 55 to 44 which killed a bi-partisan resolution to end U.S. complicity in the bombing and starving of Yemeni women and children. Shireen Al-Adeimi, a graduate student at Harvard University who is originally from Yemen, joins us to discuss the nature of U.S. military support for MBS’s war on Yemen and the complex internecine fighting that is destroying Yemen which is already the poorest country in the Middle East.

Part 3

Then finally we go to the U.K. to speak with Mike Harris, the CEO of 89up and the publisher of Little Atoms. He writes on human rights, surveillance and free speech and joins us to discuss the angry reaction in the British parliament to revelations that Cambridge Analytica used personal data from Facebook to influence the Brexit vote along with helping Trump win the U.S. election. We will discuss a video sting by Channel Four in the U.K. that exposes the head of Cambridge Analytica boasting on hidden camera about his role in defeating Hillary Clinton and his offer to supply Ukrainian girls to entrap rival politicians.
