Part 1

We begin with the extraordinary number of Fox News analysts who will be staffing the Trump White House, in part because Trump watches Fox News and gets much of his information from it. Dan Cassino, a professor of political science at Fairleigh Dickinson University and author of “Fox News and American Politics: How One Channel Shapes American Politics and Society” joins us to discuss how Fox News, the “Pravda” of the Republican Party, will now become the voice if not the brains of the White House. We also discuss the irony, now that Trump is considering General Petraeus to be the next Secretary of State, of the appointment of Fox News analyst K.T. McFarland as the Deputy National Security Advisor, given her past effort on behalf of Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch to recruit General Petraeus to run for president against his Commander-in-Chief Barack Obama in 2012. Apparently Petraeus’s conviction for sharing classified information with his mistress does not rise to the level of “crooked Hillary’s” alleged crime of having a private email server for which she was exonerated by the FBI.

Part 2

Then we examine the latest possible terrorist incident which the Islamic State is taking credit for that took place on the campus of The Ohio State University where a Somali student drove his car into a crowd on the pavement then slashed at them with a butcher’s knife, wounding 11, one critically. The author of “Chasing Ghosts: The Policing of Terrorism”, John Mueller, a professor of political science and the Woody Hayes Chair of National Security Studies at The Ohio State University, joins us to discuss the apparent last-minute conversion of this hapless defender of Muslims, including the Rohingya in Myanmar, who was shot dead by a campus policeman.

Part 3

Then finally we get an update on the recounts of the votes in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan from Daniel Tokaji, a Professor of Law at The Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law and co-author of the casebook “Election Law: Cases and Materials”. We discuss the likelihood that the results in these states will not be overturned but that this will end up as an audit or an investigation to rule out hacking, intentional disregarding of ballots or illegal coordination between election officials and campaigns etc.

Part 1

We begin with the claim by Donald Trump without any supporting evidence, that he would have won the popular vote but for the millions of fraudulent votes cast. Dan Wallach, a professor in the systems group at Rice University’s Department of Computer Science where he manages Rice’s computer security lab and does research on the security of electronic voting systems, joins us to discuss the recount underway in Wisconsin that was initiated by the Green Party’s Jill Stein which Donald Trump has condemned. We look into the reasons why a recount is needed, given the Intelligence Community’s concerns about Russian interference in our election, and that since a paper audit trail is available in Wisconsin and Michigan, a recount will provide a more accurate count and either confirm or dispel any outside interference in our recent close election.

Part 2

Then we speak with Wayne White, a former expert with the Iraq Study Group who was the Deputy Director of the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research’s Office of Analysis for the Near East and South Asia. He joins us to discuss his article at Lobelog “Obama Brought the Islamic State to its Knees: Watch Donald Trump Take the Credit” and assess how much longer the Islamic State will survive in Mosul and Raqqa and the impact of a the likely fall of Aleppo in terms of a flood of refugees into Turkey where Erdogan, who is angry with the E.U. over its criticism of his purges, could unlock the doors to the camps and send refugees flooding into Europe.

Part 3

Then finally we speak with Ann Louise Bardach, a PEN USA Award-winning journalist and author who is an expert on Cuba having written extensively about Fidel Castro in “Cuba Confidential” and “Without Fidel: A Death Foretold in Miami, Havana and Washington”. She interviewed Castro at length for Vanity Fair which she wrote about in The Guardian “Glory and my place in history do not worry me: My Interview with Fidel Castro” and we  discuss her interview in which, when asked what would happen to Cuba after his death, Castro replied “It’s not my fault that I haven’t died yet, it’s not my fault that the CIA failed to kill me”.

Part 1

We begin with the death of Fidel Castro at the age of 90 and speak with Arturo Lopez Levy, a former political analyst with the Cuban government who is now a lecturer at the University of Texas on Latin American Politics and U.S. Foreign Policy. The author of "Raul Castro and the New Cuba: A Close-up View of Change", we discuss the speculation that Fidel Castro’s younger brother Raul, who took over the family rule of Cuba in 2006, has been restrained from introducing the necessary reforms to revive Cuba’s ailing economy because it involves dismantling the sclerotic system of state power that Fidel constructed. We will also look into what might happen to the historic rapprochement between the U.S. and Cuba brokered by the Pope and whether a President Trump will undo the progress made by Raul Castro and Barack Obama.

-

Part 2

Then we assess the 50 year-long U.S. embargo and countless assassination attempts on Castro’s life which just ended with him having outlived ten U.S. presidents. Roger Morris, who served on the senior staff of the National Security Council under presidents Johnson and Nixon and is the author of a comparative history of the inner politics of the U.S. and the USSR, “Kindred Rivals: America, Russia and Their Failed Ideals”, joins us. We also discuss the makeup of Trump’s new national security team with the addition of a Fox News political hack, K.T. McFarland as the Deputy National Security advisor.

Part 3

Then finally we examine the role of fake news manufactured by Russian Intelligence that was inserted into the U.S. media during the election campaign to undermine Hillary Clinton and stoke fears among the American left that the two nuclear-armed rivals were heading towards a nuclear confrontation. A former Russian journalist Sufian Zhemukhov, a visiting scholar attheInstitute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies at George Washington University, joins us to discuss Putin’s announced desire in a pep-talk to the employees of RT, Russian Today, to “break the Anglo-Saxon monopoly on the global information streams”.

November 24 - A Thanksgiving Dinner For Those Resisting the Dakota Access Pipeline; What the Majority Can Do In a Minority President's America; Reversing the Oligarchical Takeover of the World

Full Program

LISTEN TO FULL PROGRAM

Part 1

We begin on this Thanksgiving, with Judy Wicks, an author and activist who is leading a delegation at Standing Rock serving Thanksgiving dinner to those resisting the Dakota Access Pipeline. For 15 years she has held an annual Native American Thanksgiving Dinner that gives thanks for the many foods in our diet first cultivated by Native Americans. Today she is cooking dinner for the Native American protesters and their supporters who have been attacked by dogs, pepper-sprayed, shot with rubber bullets and sprayed with water cannons in sub-zero temperatures, making a stand to defend their ancestral lands from what they call the “black snake”, an oil pipeline that will contribute to global warming and the further destruction of our planet.

Part 2

Then we speak with George Lakoff, the Distinguished Professor of Cognitive Science at the University of California at Berkeley and a founding senior fellow at the Rockridge Institute. We discuss his article at Common Dreams “A Minority President Trump: Why the Polls Failed and What the Majority Can Do” and assess the reasons the Republicans have ended up in control of the country in spite of not winning the popular vote, as well as what people can do to fight back without just showcasing Trump in the limelight, but rather highlighting the majority’s positive moral view in the frame of the majority’s positive worldview.

Part 3

Then finally, as we head into a plutocratic future, accelerated by Trump’s election, we will examine what can be done to reverse the oligarchical takeover of the world where just 85 families control half of the planet’s wealth. A trend that resembles medieval duchies controlled by a few families and powerful multi-national companies, with a shrunken middle class of professionals and a vast global underclass. Stephan Schwartz, the editor of the daily web publication, Schwartzreport.net and author of “The 8 Laws of Change: How to Be an Agent of Personal and Social Transformation”, joins us to discuss the movement away from concentrated global power in the hands of a few towards local control and cooperative engagement of, by and for the many.

LISTEN TO FULL PROGRAM

Part 1

We begin with an analysis of whether Donald Trump is already a captive of the Republican establishment he ran against, or will he, as promised, drain the swamp and make America great again. Sam Tanenhaus, a columnist at Prospect Magazine and the former editor of The New York Times Book Review and the Week in Review Section, joins us to discuss his latest article at The New York Times, “Donald Trump’s Art of the New Deal?” and whether Trump’s statements to the editors of The New York Times indicate he is abandoning his campaign promises of bringing back torture, denying climate change, jailing Hillary Clinton and deporting 12 million undocumented immigrants. We also look into whether, like Eisenhower Trump will not dismantle Democratic programs such as Social Security and rebuild the nation’s infrastructure.

Part 2

Then we discuss Trump’s selection for Secretary of Education with Diane Ravitch, who served as Assistant Secretary of Education under George H.W. Bush and is the author of “Reign of Error: The Hoax of the Privatization Movement and the Danger to America’s Public Schools”. She joins us to assess whether the billionaire champion of charter schools and privatized education, Betsy DeVos will be the nail in the coffin of public schools in America and base the country’s future education on the for-profit college model that is essentially a taxpayer-funded racket that makes scam artists rich while leaving students with a lifetime of debt and a worthless education.

Part 3

Then finally we will look into whether or not the Clinton campaign will act on the urging from prominent computer scientists and voting-rights attornies to challenge the recent election results in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania before the looming deadlines expire. Investigative journalist Andrew Gumbel, the author of “Down for the Count: Dirty Elections and the Rotten History of Democracy in America”, joins us to discuss how in Wisconsin, Clinton received 7% fewer votes in counties with electronic-voting machines compared to counties that used optical scanners and paper ballots, and whether Russian interference could be a factor in the close Electoral College vote.
